little big boy tales

Last week, before The Little Big Boy went back to school, Mommy asked him:

"Ano kelangan ko ba magleave para masamahan kita sa first day?"

I thought, "You will accompany him and together you will sing, The First Day Funk?!?".

LBB answered, "Wag na, baka nakayuko na ko nun pagdating sa school."

Hahahahahha. LBB is already fifteen and in second year high school. Nakakahiya nga yun!

The situation was both funny and sad. Funny because maybe Mom did not realize that our LBB is now a young man and wouldn't want to be labelled as mama's boy. Sad because his actions and words are now "grown-up". When he was about five, he kept on insisting that he wasn't a baby anymore. Until now, that simple fact haven't sunk in. Ugh!

LBB's first week in school went on smoothly. Except maybe for the surprise quiz in Religion where he got a very low score. They were asked to write down the usual prayers from their heads...under time pressure...right minus wrong. Vivid memories of my time back in school when writing the National Anthem was a tedious task kinda shook me. In short I reacted "violently", being a grade-conscious ate that I am.

"Kapag nagdadasal ka ba kay God, you cannot take your time?"
"Will God tell you, hurry up, and say your prayers, I'm busy?"

Of course not! But then again, I know I shouldn't be the one to complain. It's LBB's call, he promised anyway to do better next time. Besides, it's just the beginning of the school year. And Mhel said, maybe the quiz was just the teacher's way to instill discipline. I did not listen to the explanation, harharhar.

LBB is maturing before our eyes. He is starting to do things his way and on his own. Next year, he will be allowed to get his Student's License to drive.

Aaaaarrrrggghhhhhh!!
